WORTH NOTING: Washington Dems want Republican on the Ballot
Washington state Democrats are suing to put ‘Republican’ on the ballot in the closely contested gubernatorial race. Specifically, they want Dino Rossi to be forced to list his party preference as “Republican party” instead of Rossi’s choice, “GOP party.” Why? Polls show many voters don’t know the GOP and Republican party are the same.
Secretary of State Sam Reed (R) told the Seattle Times that the state’s new top-two primary allows a candidate to list whatever party preference he or she wants. “One person did Salmon Yoga Party,” he said.
Vermont Gov. Jim Douglas (R), in the middle of a re-election battle for his seat, is being roasted – not by his opponents, but by Field & Stream, a magazine for hunters and fishers. That’s because while fishing in front of photographers on the opening day of the season, Douglas’s Fish & Wildlife Commissioner “dutifully” baited his hook for him, the magazine reported.
A spokesman for the governor told the Vermont Press Bureau the commissioner was simply being “helpful and polite” and that the governor has baited his own hook “hundreds of times.”
The last home run hit in Yankee Stadium belongs to a Wyoming legislator known as “Steve from Colorado.” When Rep. Steve Harshman (R) ended up with the ball after a mad scramble during the last game of the stadium’s 85-year history, he only told the New York media that his name was Steve and that he was from a place with many Colorado Rockies fans. That left them to create “Steve from Colorado,” a man with an “aw, shucks” personality. The ball now sits in a safety deposit box, the Casper Star Tribune reports.
