While Texas stands to gain a national-best four seats in the U.S. House of Representatives, Montana missed getting a second representative, even though its population grew 10.2 percent, to 994,416 people. In other words, only one representative — currently Republican Denny Rehberg — will continue to represent nearly a million residents, making Montanans the least-represented on a per-capita basis in the nation, as the Great Falls Tribune reports . The average district for House members is 710,767 people.
“It’s my job to represent the Last Best Place and I’ll keep doing that to the very best of my ability,” Rehberg said Tuesday in a statement.
Delaware, which has 900,877 people and also has only one congressman (currently Republican Mike Castle), is second-worst in the nation in per-capita representation, according to the Census.
